A Puzzling Guest Book Idea

29 Nov

It’s a guest book, a wedding activity, and an heirloom all in one. If you’re looking for a creative and unique addition to the big day, custom wedding puzzles are a great idea. Etsy vendors Bella Puzzles Too and Custom Dog Bandanas make hand-cut, wooden puzzles personalized with pieces in the shape of initials, names, event date, or figures. With Bella Puzzles Too, you even have the option of sending in a picture (of the soon-to-be spouses) to be printed onto the completed puzzle. Once you’ve sent in a picture and/or picked out personalized shapes for the pieces, a beautiful wooden puzzle is crafted especially for the event. (Be sure to plan ahead at least 10 weeks to account for production time).

The day of the wedding is when the fun starts, as the back of the puzzle pieces become the guest book. There is enough space on the back of each piece for a guest to sign their name and short message, and when the newlyweds assemble their puzzles, they’ll have a beautiful picture on one side, and a collage of well wishes from their loved ones on the back!

While these are a great investment for a bride and groom to make, custom wedding puzzles can also be a wonderful wedding gift from the bridal party! As hand-cut wooden puzzles can be pricey (think $200-$300), consider having all the bridesmaids pitch in on this wonderful wedding shower gift.

And of course, we wouldn’t leave you hanging without a cheap, alternative DIY option! The creative minds at Elizabeth Anne Designs Weddings have this adorable idea for guest book puzzles:

  • Using Joslin Photo Puzzle Company or Shutterfly turn an enlarged photo of the bride and groom into a puzzle (make sure to match up the number of guests with the number of pieces) for a reasonable price of about $30 (depending on the number of pieces).
  • Place magnetic strips on the back of the pieces and pair them with a place card on a magnetic white board (can be purchased for about $5 from Target or Ikea).
  • When guests approach the card display, they take the piece and place card with their name on it. Before going to sit at their assigned table, they place their puzzle piece in the proper spot on the magnetic board and, in permanent paint marker, can write personalized messages around the border. The newlyweds will have a unique guestbook, as well as a work of art to take home!
